It began with two people waiting for wax to set.
The Bagekar Studio started at home in Mumbai. Dnyaneshwari Bagekar and her mother, Mahananda Bagekar, wanted candles with warmth, restraint, and a scent fitting the way Indian homes are lived in.

Where it began
The first candles were made for home.
The problem was simple.
Many candles felt too sweet, too loud, or made for rooms unlike ours.
Dnyaneshwari and Mahananda began with the scents already around them: coffee after dinner, mogra at dusk, sandalwood in cupboards, rain on warm earth, fresh linen in morning light.
Those details became the beginning of seven collections.
The people behind the light
Made together, in Mumbai.
Dnyaneshwari and Mahananda learned every part themselves.
They measured wax at the kitchen table. They adjusted wicks. They waited through curing days. They lit each test candle and watched how the flame behaved.
Some pours worked. Many did not.
The studio grew through those small corrections.
What began as time spent making together became a business with the same feeling: patient, familiar, and close to home.

The making
Five steps. None rushed.

Choosing
Wax, wick, fragrance, vessel, and size are selected as one system.

Blending
Each fragrance is measured for balance before pouring begins.

Pouring
Small batches keep the work close and every vessel within reach.

Resting
The candle sits undisturbed while wax and fragrance settle.

Testing and finishing
Wicks are trimmed, labels applied, vessels cleaned, and test candles burned before release.
What goes into a candle
Four parts. Each one has a job.
- Wax
- A soy-wax formulation chosen for finish, fragrance, and burn.
- Wick
- Lead-free cotton or wood, selected for the size and shape of the vessel.
- Fragrance
- Blends built around a clear scent structure, from the first note to the one left in the room.
- Vessel
- Glass, ceramic, concrete, or terracotta chosen for function and life after the final burn.
